H. PHILIP ELWOOD

H. Philip ElwoodH. Philip Elwood graduated from Wichita State University in 1968 and received his Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law in 1971. He began his legal career at Goodell, Stratton, Edmonds & Palmer, L.L.P. in 1971. He served as managing partner for the firm from 1993 to 2007.

Mr. Elwood's professional experience has been concentrated in business organization and reorganization of both for-profit and not-for-profit entities, including corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and limited partnerships.

Mr. Elwood has worked extensively with public offering and private placement of securities, securities regulation, tax planning, estate planning, and health care law. His experience has included business transactional law, acquisitions and restructurings, including a transaction which required the simultaneous merger of 415 corporations in 34 states. Another successful transaction involved the acquisition of a large multi-specialty physician practice by a large nonprofit medical center.

Mr. Elwood has lectured on Corporate Reorganization and Medicare Reimbursement for the American College of Legal Medicine. He has also lectured for the American Dental Association and the Kansas Bar Association on corporate law, securities law, and other areas. He has served as Chairman of the Topeka Bar Association's Legal Aid and Lawyer Referral Committee, and as a member of the Kansas Bar Association's Program Development Committee on Continuing Legal Education. Mr. Elwood has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Topeka Bar Association and on the Board of Governors for the Washburn University School of Law.  He is a member of the American, Kansas, and Topeka Bar Associations, and the Kansas Association of Hospital Attorneys; and is listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1984 and American Health Lawyers Association since 1997.

Mr. Elwood served as a Director and is a past President of the Topeka Performing Arts Center. He is a 25-year member of the Downtown Topeka Rotary Club, serving as president in 2002-2003. Mr. Elwood has served as a Director and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the United Way of Greater Topeka and as President of the Topeka Lawyers Club. He is active in Grace Episcopal Cathedral where he has served as Senior Warden of the Vestry and is serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee and Chancellor.  He has also served as a Director and President of The Topeka Civitan Club, Inc., The Channel Eleven Club, Inc., and the Topeka Legal Aid Society, Inc.
